How is Calmont different from other private schools?
Calmont offers a unique environment for learning. We take full advantage of our special canyon setting, incorporating nature, ecology and the environment into our studies. Students have the opportunity to enjoy our incredible outdoor resources at the same time they are developing a firm foundation in the arts and sciences.
Students are also involved in monthly community service projects throughout the year encouraging them to be active citizens who are sensitive to the needs of the larger community.
Are students tested as part of the admissions process? How do you select students for admission?
Admission is based on an interview, previous school records and standardized tests, confidential academic teacher/administrative recommendations, and a screening administered by Calmont staff.
Students who seek admission to grades sixth through ninth are required to take the Independent School Entrance Exam by the end of January. You may complete the ISEE Online Registration Form available at www.iseetest.org. Please list Calmont as a score recipient. Our school code is 054290.

Extended Day Care is offered to families from 3-5pm daily.
Is there an opportunity for parent involvement?
All parents are automatically a member of the Calmont Association of Parents (CAP). It exists on the principle that parent involvement is vital to the education of our children. CAP provides an opportunity for parents to enrich the education and development of our children through meaningful involvement in school life. There are multiple ways to participate. The work of CAP is accomplished through a variety of committees which are responsible for events such as the Back-to-School Picnic, Book Faire, Pizza Lunch, Grandparent/Special Friend Day, Bowling Night, the Auction and the Staff Luncheon. The time commitment for parent involvement can be as little as one hour serving Pizza Lunch to all year as a room parent.
Do you have an emergency plan?
Calmont School has a well defined plan that includes emergency contact information, supplies and provision to remain at or evacuate the campus, depending on the need. Calmont practices monthly fire/disaster drills and bi-monthly evacuation drills to prepare the staff and the students for any emergency. Print out our Emergency evacuation maps for your quick reference.
How are students assessed and how is that communicated to parents?
During the school year, there are three formal performance evaluations. In addition to written reports, two of the evaluations involve parent-teacher/advisor conferences at the school during the fall and spring. At this time the teacher will provide a brief written report and discuss the child's development with the parents. In January, progress reports are also sent out to Middle School parents.
At the end of the school year, a complete written report which summarizes the child's progress for the entire year is given to the parents. Parents are welcome to make appointments for additional conferences with the teacher at any time they feel the need for further information.
Each fall the Educational Records Bureau standardized tests are administered to students in 2nd-9th Grades. Those results are sent to the parents, and parents are given the opportunity to discuss the testing with the classroom teacher and/or the Head of School.
How do I make an appointment to come and see the school?
You may call 818-880-8820 to schedule an appointment. Open Houses are scheduled throughout the year. As part of the admission process, interested parents will meet and tour the campus with the Head of School and prospective students will spend time in the classroom.

Information about school fundraising.
The tuition for an education at Calmont is substantial. Yet, it is not enough to pay all of the expenses that make Calmont such an exceptional environment for learning. This year's K-9 tuition ranges from $19,000-$19,500, yet the average cost to educate each child is projected at approximately $22,000 per child. It is vital, then, that the whole community be actively involved in the various fundraising activities that help to operate the school, as well as improve and strengthen the quality of our program. Without these activities, Calmont cannot be the school that it wants to be. Your enthusiastic support will make a difference in the life of the school today and tomorrow. Investing in Calmont is an investment in the future of each child.
Calmont's annual fundraisers include:
The Annual Fund (September-December). Members of the Community are solicited by letter and through a phonathon to support the operating expenses of the school not covered by tuition. Volunteers help with the phonathon.
Auction. This event is Calmont's annual fundraising gala designed and orchestrated by CAP. Typically, the evening's activities include dinner, music, good company and spirited bidding on various items donated by vendors and friends of the school. A highlight is always the stunning art projects created by every class in the school. Volunteers with all sorts of interests and expertise are needed throughout the year to plan and organize the event. Contact CAP if you would like to contribute your time and talent.
Book Faire. This activity supports the growth and development of the Library. Volunteers are needed to organize the event and to help sell books on the day of the Faire.
Pizza Lunch. This popular Wednesday activity is organized by CAP. Students enjoy a break from the regular lunch menus munching on pizza and salad contributed and served by parents. Proceeds from the lunches go toward a project mutually determined by CAP and the Head of School.
